ARTIST OF THE DECADE GEORGE STRAIT RECEIVES HIS 12TH ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC NOMINATION FOR ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR
 
Strait Has 80 Career Nominations
 
NASHVILLE, TN (March 2, 2010) – The 45th ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS (ACMS) recognized George Strait for the 12th time in the Entertainer of the Year category as well his 20th nod in Top Male Vocalist category, bringing Artist of the Decade’s all-time record to 80 career nominations. The announcements were made this morning on CBS Early Show. The ACMS will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 18 at 8:00 PM live EST on CBS.

For the third year, fans will select the winner of the Academy’s most prestigious honor, Entertainer of the Year. Online voting for all fan voted categories will be available at www.voteACM.com. The winner of Entertainer of the Year will be announced live during the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

In 2009 Strait received the Academy of Country Music's ARTIST OF THE DECADE award in recognition of his record-breaking career. Only four other acts have been honored as ARTIST OF THE DECADE in the Academy's history, including Marty Robbins in 1969, Loretta Lynn in 1979, Alabama in 1988 and Garth Brooks in 1998.

Since his debut in 1981, Strait has sold more than 62 million records and counting. With 32 different platinum or multi-platinum albums, he's earned the second most certifications of any artist in any genre, following only the Beatles and Elvis Presley. George Strait has received more than 50 major entertainment industry awards and countless nominations.

Strait is currently headlining a national arena tour along with Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack.
